Back in June, Norweigan DJ Kygo took on the task of remixing Whitney Houston’s take on Steve Winwood’s Higher Love. Now an 80’s inspired music video for the track featuring Vanessa Morgan (most recently known for her role as Toni Topaz in Riverdale) and Mase Cut as the lead roles has been released.
The video for the track oozes in 80’s inspiration as it sees Vanessa Morgan taking on a dance class rehearsal with a group of friends before an uninvited guest gets involved. This results in a full-scale dance routine coming to life which makes us a little jealous that we aren’t part of it all! It’s fun, fiery and feel-good with Whitney’s noticeable vocals carrying the track. There are even snippets of the I Wanna Dance With Somebody video throughout, providing the ultimate throwback. Directed by Hannah Lux Davis who is known for her work with Ariana Grande and Halsey; the video could have come right out of Whitney’s hey-dey and we absolutely love it.
Organised by Whitney’s mentor Clive Davis the track first came to light during a live performance in 1990 before the vocals were recorded by Whitney in 1991 with plans for it to appear on her third album I’m Your Baby Tonight, however, it failed to make the cut. Kygo with Whitney Houston Estate’s help took the track and gave it his own unique touch, helping to propel it to the top of Billboards Dance Club Songs chart. Higher Lover is out now and you can listen to it below.
