BERLIN (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Detlef Kornett, CEO of AEG Germany, will leave the company December 31st.
At the same time AEG will integrate Kornett's German business areas in Berlin directly into the worldwide structure. There will be no successor for Kornett, according to Billboard.biz.
"The office in Berlin will continue to develop and do the marketing of the Berlin O2 world with 17 employees. No lay-offs are planned," Moritz Hillebrand, director communication, Anschutz Entertainment Group Development in Berlin tells Billboard.biz.
"In 2010 the German Anschutz arenas in Berlin and Hamburg will have had more than 2.4 million visitors," adds Hillebrand.
Tim Leiweke, president and CEO Anschutz Entertainment Group worldwide, said in a statement: "Detlef Kornett had a large share in the growing of the Anschutz Entertainment Group. He pushed and established our projects in Europe and positioned AEG in Germany."
The departure of Kornett is at his own request in order to meet new challenges, according to a statement.
"My task is fulfilled," said Kornett in a statement. "The Anschutz Entertainment Group is well established in Germany. The two O2 arenas in Berlin and Hamburg and the two ice hockey teams are managed by great teams."
Since 2000 Kornett was managing director in London and finally managing director, president and CEO of Anschutz Entertainment Group in Germany. Under his management AEG took over operations of the Millennium Dome in London, which became the O2 complex, and the area of the former east-station in Berlin.
From 2004, Kornett concentrated on building up and marketing the O2 World arena in Berlin. He also negotiated the acquisition of the former Color Line arena in Hamburg and the name-partnership with Telefonica O2 Germany. He was also managing director of the ice hockey team Eisbären in Berlin.
